International Women's Day

In the United States, the U.S. Census Bureau reported that in 2020, there were approximately 10.5 million single mother-led families, making up about 23% of all U.S. households with children under 18.

Single mothers are more likely to live in poverty compared to other family structures. According to the U.S. Census Bureau's 2020 American Community Survey, the poverty rate for families led by single mothers was 27.7%, significantly higher than the overall poverty rate.

Single mothers may face unique barriers to seeking help and leaving abusive situations. These barriers can include financial dependence on the abuser, lack of affordable housing options, fear of losing custody of their children, and social stigma associated with being a single parent.

International Women's Day

The effects of abuse can be long-lasting and pervasive, impacting women's physical health, mental well-being, relationships, and overall quality of life. Healing from abuse often requires comprehensive support and resources.

Welcome to

One Sister To Another,

where we believe in the power of sisterhood and support. Our mission is simple yet profound: to empower and uplift single mothers, unhoused women, and survivors of abuse on their journey towards a brighter future.

Through a combination of service, mentorship, and providing resources, we aim to not only meet immediate needs but also to inspire lasting transformation. Whether it's providing essential supplies, offering guidance through mentorship programs, or simply extending a caring hand, we are dedicated to uplifting spirits and fostering positive change.

At OSTA, we understand that every woman deserves to feel valued, supported, and empowered. Join us in our mission to encourage, uplift, and promote a better place and state of mind for our sisters in need. Together, we can make a difference, one woman at a time.

Our History

One Sister to Another (OSTA) Outreach Ministry traces its roots back to the inception of One Sister to Another Fellowship, which began in January 2000 as an intimate gathering hosted by Denise Burns in her home. This fellowship provided a welcoming space for women to come together, bringing friends who did not regularly attend church, fostering genuine relationships and spiritual growth through encouragement, Biblical teachings, and shared experiences.

As the fellowship grew and participants experienced long-lasting positive changes in their lives, it became evident that additional services were needed to meet the evolving needs of women affiliated with the ministry. The demand exceeded the capacity of the founder's home, prompting the expansion beyond immediate church circles. Recognizing the community's need for more comprehensive support in areas such as training, mentoring, and rehabilitation, One Sister to Another Outreach Ministry was established.
